RODEO WINNINGS TAX COMPLIANCE POLICY
1. Overview
To comply with U.S. tax laws, all winnings paid to individuals, including foreign participants, are subject to federal tax withholding and reporting requirements. As a condition of receiving payment, all winners must provide the necessary tax documentation.
2. Required Documentation
U.S. Citizens and Resident Aliens must complete and submit IRS Form W-9 (https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw9.pdf)before payment is issued. Non-U.S. Citizens (Foreign Persons) must complete and submit IRS Form W-8BEN (https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw8ben.pdf)before payment is issued. This form determines eligibility for tax treaty benefits and ensures proper tax withholding.
3. Withholding Requirements
If a valid Form W-8BEN (https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw8ben.pdf)is provided, tax withholding may be reduced or eliminated depending on applicable U.S. tax treaties. If a winner fails to submit a Form W-8BEN,(https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw8ben.pdf) the default IRS-mandated 30% withholding tax will be applied to the winnings.
If a winner refuses to provide a W-8BEN,(https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw8ben.pdf) they will not be eligible to receive payment.
4. Submission Deadline
All required tax forms must be submitted before prize disbursement. Forms must be completed accurately and signed. Failure to submit the required forms may result in payment delays or forfeiture of winnings.
5. Tax Reporting
All prize payments and withholdings will be reported to the IRS on Form 1042-S (for foreign individuals) or Form 1099-MISC (for U.S. residents), as applicable. Winners are responsible for any tax obligations in their home country.
6. Compliance Acknowledgment
By participating in this rodeo, competitors acknowledge and agree to comply with all applicable tax regulations and documentation requirements.
